Though the number of complaints made to the Office of the Ombudsman in 2010 jumped by 30 per cent on the previous year, the Ombudsman herself, Ms Emily O’Reilly, said it came as “no surprise” as the increase is in keeping with the pattern of recent years. Also “unsurprising” to Ms O’Reilly was that “the brunt of the increase was experienced in the health and social services areas”.
