Researchers spot breast cancer indicators

 

Scientists from Imperial College London in the UK have found that women with very high levels of methylation in the area of a gene known as the ATM have double the risk of going on to develop breast cancer, compared to those without the faulty gene.

4,500 patients waiting more than nine months for surgery

There were 4,454 adults waiting greater than nine months for an elective procedure at the end of February, according to new figures from the HSE. The HSE’s February Performance Report shows that this figure includes 1,855 inpatients and 2,599 day cases.

 

   

Primary Care Diabetes Society All-Ireland Conference

 

The fifth All-Ireland Conference of the Primary Care Diabetes Society (PCDS) will take place April 27 and 28 in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone. The meeting will be opened on Friday by Minister for Primary Care Roisin Shortall, who is expected to discuss the role of diabetes management in the community and the HSE's plans for chronic disease management.
