Performance assessment costs to be examined

The Medical Council has pledged to examine the manner in which performance assessments are funded, although doctors themselves may still be required to bear the costs of the process, it has emerged.

The number of patients waiting on trolleys today totals 319, according to figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO).

The daily tally from the INMO shows that 130 of these are in the HSE East. Some 36 patients are without beds in Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda while 33 are without beds in Cork University Hospital.

Beaumont sees 30 patients on trolleys, while Tallaght has 24. Galway University Hospital and St Vincent's both have 26 patients without beds.
