The approximate €5 million refurbishment and building programme of the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland’s offices at 22 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, will be completed in September 2009, its former President Dr John MacAdoo has said.

“The refurbished building and the additional new educational facilities in Denzille Lane will facilitate the College to continue to fulfill and expand its educational and training roles into the future,” Dr MacAdoo said of the project, which has involved temporarily moving the College off site to 12 Duke Lane, Dublin 2 – a move likely to reverse a 4.9 per cent drop on the 2007 overall expenditure of the College in 2009.

In anticipation of the capital development, College examiners who are Fellows were asked to further contribute by foregoing their fees for administering examination, according to the College’s 2008 Annual Report.

The College income from Fellows subscriptions has also increased by over 35 per cent on the 2007 figure from €257,260 to €352,979, Honorary Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance and General Purpose Committee, Dr John Loughrey said adding that, in the coming years this income category will be “of vital importance” as expenditure will rise and income from other categories is expected to decline.

Overall income for 2008 increased by 4.7 per cent on the 2007 figure, up to €2,591,768 from €2,475,850.

“Our overall expenditure has decreased by 4.9 per cent on the 2007 figure, however, this trend is likely to reverse in 2009 due to the requirement to move the College staff and courses off-site while works to the College building take place.”, he added.

Overall expenditure dropped to €1,570,024 from €1,655,157 last year.
