A total of €19.3 million has been paid to companies that have been involved with the nursing home repayment scheme over the past four years, it has emerged.
The majority of the payment (€14.6 million) was made to KPMG accountants and McCann Fitzgerald solicitors who administered the scheme, which began in 2006, alongside the HSE.
The remainder of the money was paid for IT consultancy, advertising, legal, printing, and audit services.
The information was provided by Health Minister Mary Harney in response to a Parliamentary Question from Labour health spokesperson Deputy Jan O’Sullivan.
The Minister also stated that the remaining claims to the nursing home repayment scheme are being progressed currently and will be finalised in the coming weeks.
In excess of 35,000, or 99.3 per cent of all claims, have been concluded, according to the Minister.
To date a total of €420.243 million has been paid to claimants.
