There are 389 patients without beds in hospitals around the country today, figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) have revealed.

This month begins with 48 patients on trolleys in Galway University Hospital while Beaumont Hospital has 35 patients waiting without beds. Also in the east, St Vincent's has 31 without beds, and Connolly Hospital has 27.

Outside the eastern area, Drogheda has 29 patients on trolleys while Mid Western Regional in Limerick and Wexford General have 26 and 21 respectively.
