I have heard and read about cutbacks in the health service, patients on trolleys, and dangerously long waiting lists. Ms O’Connor in her letter regarding symphysiotomy (IMN, 29/8/11) refers to an “independent inquiry”, which has, is, or will use scarce resources, into events of 50-60 years ago. This is crazy. The past is a different country – they did things differently there.
